Blake Smith is running for Waterloo City Council in Ward 4 because every part of Waterloo deserves attention, investment, and representation.
Because his parents divorced, Blake grew up on both the East and West Sides of Waterloo. He attended West Side schools while living experiences connected to both parts of the city.
Today, Blake lives on the East Side and believes the East Side deserves leadership that fights for its neighborhoods, roads, businesses, recreation, and future.
Blake believes local government should work for the people — not political comfort, wasteful spending, or one side of the city over another.
Waterloo residents face some of the highest taxes in Iowa. Blake supports cutting wasteful spending, improving efficiency, and responsibly lowering the burden on taxpayers — especially property taxes.
Road repairs should last. Blake supports affordable, durable repair solutions instead of repeated temporary patches that fail on busy roads, along with repainting road lines and improving street safety.
The East Side deserves equal attention and investment. Blake supports improving recreation, housing, beautification, business growth, and economic opportunity throughout Ward 4.
Blake opposes decisions that weaken East Side recreation and identity, including replacing Gate’s Pool with a cement splash pad rather than preserving a stronger community destination for families.
